Collserola is the Natural Park that lies behind the hill of Tibidabo, just inland from Barcelona. After only 15 minutes on the train, you are amidst the lush greenery of the Catalan countryside. The hike takes you along small tree–lined paths, winding, up and down over the hills of the park (but not too strenuous), past springs and spectacular views. There are plenty of places and opportunities for a well–earned rest. If you wish, you can also have a restorative lunch at a converted farmhouse on the way that serves hearty Catalan food, including the famed calçots (giant grilled spring onions). Or, if you prefer, there are a number of spots that are ideal for a picnic. A short walk from the farmhouse takes you to your destination, the town of Cerdanyola, with its ancient monastery. From here, we take the train back to Barcelona.
